Here are three new features that we can see this year.

Dark mode

The world's most popular messaging service has long been a dark mode, which alters the way the app is reduced to your eyes.

While we usually look at the dark text on the white background, a dark mode will switch it, so your screen shows white text on a dark background.

It is better for your eyesight, especially in the night when watching for a very long time on the bright screen can gradually damage your eyesight.

Many apps already provide a dark mode, which includes Google Maps, Twitter and IBook, and Whatsapp is developing its own version for months.

In the September, tech site WA BetaInfo found that Whatsapp has hidden secret details about a dark mode inside its code.

It is not clear when it will be released on a widespread user base, but our money is on the launch of 2019.

Better Voice Messaging

If you are feeling a bit lazy, Whatsapp allows you to send audio clips to your colleagues instead of typing.

And if you've ever been sending more than one clip to a line, you will know how annoying it is to hit the play button on each to hear it.

Whatsapp is reportedly bringing in a feature that will automatically run these messages one after another to make it easy to listen.

WABetaInfo saw the code for that feature within an app beta in November and is expected to launch for iOS and Android later this year.

Fingerprint scan protection

Whatsapp is already at the top of the range security, only chatting users can access their messages with end-to-end encryption meaning.

But this could be better this year because rumors mean that Whatsapp is adding fingerprint scan to security.

If active, the app will ask for your fingerprint every time you open it - to ensure that snoopers can not access your messages.
